The Committee
The committee is the main driving force behind Hume Phoenix Inc. Monthly meetings are held at the Albury Community Health Centre. What does the committee do?
In broad terms the committee ensures that the members of Hume Phoenix Inc. fulfills their individual and group obligations to abide by the constitution, aims and objectives of Hume Phoenix Inc. The aims and objectives are printed on the back of all renewal/membership notice. Copies of the constitution are available on request to all financial members.
Hume Phoenix aims are to:
- Form a unified community
- Support and promote the rights, issues and sexuality of those identifying as other than heterosexual
- Be non-judgmental in regard to someone's sexual preference or orientation
- Foster a community that promotes confidence, health, well-being and pride , both individually and collectively
We are supported by the Albury Community Health Centre (ACHC), and through the Government HIV Initiative, has employed a part-time Men's Sexual Health Worker at the ACHC
The Objectives of Hume Phoenix include:
- Establish a constitution
- Organise social activities for non-heterosexual people
- Lobby for the rights of non-heterosexual people
- Enhance and maintain contact and support for other non-heterosexual people
- Raise awareness and tolerance in the wider community of non-heterosexual issues and existence
- Continue to educate non-heterosexual people about safe sex
- Provide role models for non-heterosexual people "coming out"
- Increase the level of publicity about non-heterosexual people issues in the broader community
- Keep up to date with the legal aspects concerning non-heterosexual issues
- Produce a regular newsletter
- Provide a venue/community centre for the unified community
- Be financially viable
- Ensure gender equity on committees formed within the non-heterosexual community
- Provide HIV/AIDS education and support
